Your account
Start with what your money is for and when you will need it. Bring clear questions to the conversation.
01 / BEFORE YOU CHOOSE
Ask the SACCO for its available options and dated written terms. These questions do not imply that Birunga offers every service mentioned.
Is it for everyday money, saving towards a goal or receiving work payments?
How do withdrawals work? Are there frequency limits or a waiting period?
Which documents, membership shares, opening amounts and charges apply? Is there a minimum balance?
If interest applies, how is it calculated and when is it credited? What conditions must I meet?
02 / FOLLOW YOUR ACCOUNT
Ask how to obtain a record of account activity. However you review it, keep your copy secure.
Download a money recordCheck the dates and the opening and closing balances.
Match deposits, withdrawals and deductions against your records. Look for entries recorded twice.
Note the date, amount and your question. Contact the SACCO promptly through a verified channel.
03 / DIFFERENT AMOUNTS
These terms describe different things. Ask for each amount to be explained separately.
Shares relate to membership; deposits are money held in an account; service charges pay for an activity or service. Returning membership shares may follow different rules from withdrawing savings: read the cooperative’s rules first.
